dc.description.abstractThe problem of congestion at Bombay Port has been engaging the attention of the Government for quite some time. The problem was earlier studied by a Committee set up in the Ministry of Shipping and Transport1 under the Chairmanship of Shri V.R. Mehta with a view to suggesting concrete measures for diverting export/ import cargo from Bombay to other ports and streamlining port and customs procedures to expedite clearance of cargo from the docks.
