Report of the Working Group on High Seas Sales of Canalised Imports (With Special Reference to Congestion at Bombay Port)

Abstract

The problem of congestion at Bombay Port has been engaging the attention of the Government for quite some time. The problem was earlier studied by a Committee set up in the Ministry of Shipping and Transport1 under the Chairmanship of Shri V.R. Mehta with a view to suggesting concrete measures for diverting export/ import cargo from Bombay to other ports and streamlining port and customs procedures to expedite clearance of cargo from the docks.
