Abstract

The Working Group on Agricultural Research and Education Report for the Eighth Five-Year Plan (1990-1995) provides a comprehensive roadmap for enhancing India’s agricultural sector through research, education, and extension initiatives. The report emphasizes the need to transition toward knowledge-intensive agriculture to increase crop productivity, generate skilled employment, and support economically disadvantaged groups, including women. Key recommendations include strengthening State Agricultural Universities (SAUs), establishing Genetic Enhancement and Technology Blending Centres, and promoting mission-oriented research in pest management, sustainable practices, and post-harvest technology.
