Abstract

The hill region of Uttar Pradesh lies in the central zone of Himalayas. The inner Himalayas adjoin the plain areas, the middle Himalayas consist of folded mountains and rallies ranging up to 8,000 ft. above sea level, and the outer Himalayas consist of the alpine meadows and the snow clad ridges and high peaks of Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Nath, Neelkanth, Chaukhambha and Pancha Ghooly etc. offering natural beauties on die one hand and rugged character of mountainous terrain and difficulties for the inhabitants on the other hand. The heavy rainfall, landslides and deteriorated eco-system due to felling of trees in the past, over-grazing and unscientific land use has also increased the difficulties of the people.
