Abstract

Assam is the gateway to North East India with full of natural and man made growth. Its natural flora and fauna, the mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries in the north and the Barak, in the south which made the two valleys fertile which contribute in production of foodgrains, tea gardens and horticultural crops. Moreover, the forest land have been providing medicinal plants, valuable woods besides availability of other natural resources like crude oil, coal and natural gas etc. The geographical area of the state is 78438 sq. km. which is 2.4 per cent of the country. Of the total area, 25 per cent is under forest, 227 thousand ha. is under Tea plantation and 3205 thousand ha is agricultural operational area.
