Abstract
"The Programme Evaluation Organisation was set-up in the Planning Commission of the Centre in October, 1952, with independence in its working. hater evaluation organisations were set up in different States. These organisations and their work have received the attention of a number of working groups, committees etc., culminating in 1977 in the First Conference of the Heads of the Central and State Evaluation Organisations. This Conference was held ”to emphasise the role that evaluation has to play in the planning process and. also to exchange views between the Centre and the State Government officials working in the field of evaluation to improve the evaluation system”.
As a result of the deliberations of this Conference, two high powered committees, viz., (i) the Committee for Training of evaluation personnel in the country, and (ii) the Committee for strengthening of the Central and State. Evaluation Organisations,. popularly known as the Puri and the Dubhashi Committees respectively"
