Abstract

Education is a State subject bur in view of the fact that it is of the first importance to develop a national system of education in the country as a whole, it hat been necessary for the Centre, to take an increasing share in the business of planning and developing education on sound national lines. the Central Government initiates new schemes and activities which arc then taken up by the states. The Ministry of Education is responsible for the supervision of educational development in Pail ‘C’ States, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Pondicherry State. This responsibility includes approval of the budget of the States, orientation of their educational activities on the right lines, approval of the development schemes, fixation of appropriate scales of pay and qualifications for teachers, rates of stipends and scholarships, etc.
