Abstract

The Union Territory of Lakshadweep is a group of islands scattered in the Arabian sea between 8° and 12° - 30’ North Latitude and between 71° and 74° East Longitude, consists of 27 islands and a number of sunken banks, open reefs and sand banks lying at a distance ranging from 200 kms. (111 nautical miles) to 400 kms. (222 nautical miles) from mainland. Only 10 islands are inhabited. Other islands are small and exist as satellite of the inhabited islands.
