The basically inflationary economic conditions resulting from the high tempo of activities under the Second Five Year Plan, continuing almost from the very outset of the current Five Year Plan were further accentuated during the year under review by a serious fall in agricultural production due to adverse seasonal conditions during the crop year 1957-58. The inflationary trend was accompanied by recessionary forces. During the initial period when the country is engaged in developing its economy, and creation of productive capital assets, through deficit financing and external assistance, such conditions could only be expected.
