Abstract
The Annual Plan 1993-94 for Andhra Pradesh presents a strategic framework for strengthening the state’s transport infrastructure, with particular focus on minor ports, roads, bridges, public transport, and traffic management. Key initiatives target the development of Kakinada and Machilipatnam ports, including enhancements to terminal facilities, navigation aids, and cyclone rehabilitation efforts, supported by dedicated allocations and externally aided projects from the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank. Road and bridge infrastructure receives substantial investment, emphasizing new road formations, metaling, and maintenance to facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and improve regional connectivity. Special programs, such as sugarcane roads and the Cyclone Emergency Reconstruction Project, highlight targeted interventions for economically critical areas and disaster resilience. The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) is slated for fleet augmentation, service improvement, and infrastructural upgrades, while inland water transport initiatives focus on wharf construction and bridge development. Traffic control measures, including the establishment of driving schools and modernization of traffic signals, aim to manage increasing vehicular movement efficiently. Collectively, these integrated investments underscore the state’s commitment to fostering economic growth, enhancing transport efficiency, and improving living standards through a resilient and modernized transport network.
