Abstract
A fair measure of success was achieved in realising these objectives. The upward trend in wholesale prices observed since the middle of the Third Five Year Plan was arrested and the average index for 1968-69 was about 1 per cent below the average for 1967-68. Exports registered a sharp rise of 13.3 per cent and imports declined further. Payments deficit was, therefore, considerably reduced and external balance maintained, despite the lower quantum of foreign aid. Industrial production recovered from the recessionary phase and registered a growth of 6.2 per cent, thereby exceeding the target set in the Annual Plan.
