Abstract

A production target of 1O2.4O lakh tonnes of food grains. 8.80 lakh tonnes of sugarcane (gur) 13.00 lakh bales of cotton and 7.76 lakh tonnes of oilseeds has been fixed for the year 92-93. The good rains and concerted efforts of the Department coupled with hard work of the farmers resulted in a record production of 102.81 lakh tonnes of food grains. In case of sugarcane (gur) the production remained of the order of 6.72 lakh tonnes . A record production of 14.11 lakh bales of cotton was achieved. Gram and rapeseed and mustard crops suffered badly due to pests, diseases, frosted cold conditions and sensitivity to weather hazards. The overall weather conditions-during Rabi season remained quite good.
