Abstract
The now agricultural technology viz. introduction of high yielding Varities, use of modern inputs, etc. makes it imperative to augment the sources of irrigation specially through quick yielding projects. The new seed varieties arc observed to to more responsive under controlled irrigation, largely possible under minor irrigation sources. Thus, immediate expansion of facilities under minor irrigation by way of larger investments both in public and private sectors is crucial for the success of the new technology. Among all sources of minor irrigation, tubewell irrigation, undoubtedly offers larger potential for exploitation in the immediate future. substantial outlay has boon proposed during the Fourth Plan on this programme. Therefore, the evaluation of a programme of this importance at this juncture — especially of the progress made, problems faced in the implementation, economics of this type of irrigation etc. should to of considerable importance both to the Planning Commission and the concerned departments at the Control and in the States.
