Abstract

In his Address to the first Joint Session of the Seventh Parliament on January 23, 1980, the President of India referred to the need for setting up a specialised machinery, with adequate powers, to incorporate in all planned development, measures to maintain ecological balance. This has been referred to in the context of the steady deterioration of the environment, which threatens the present and future well-being of the country and the people.
