Abstract
Goa became a full-fledged State in May 1987 prior to which it was a Union Territory along with Daman and Diu since liberation in 1961. Goa the youngest State of the Indian Union has an area of 37.2 sq. km. with a population of 10.08 lakhs (1981 census) and a density of 272 persons per sq. km. The population of the State is projected to be .around 12.50.lakhs at present. The. State comprises two 1 districts gamely North Goa with six talukas and South with five talukas. The State, consists of 398 villages out of which 389 are inhabited. There are 183 village panchayats and 13 towns all of which are Municipalities
