Abstract

Himachal Pradesh, a Part 'C' State, emerged out of thirty princely States in 1948. Statistical and economic data required for scientific planning is not available, as most of the Departments had to start from a scratch after integration. From the four years' working experience of the First Five-Year Plan, it is now recognised that accurate, complete and reliable statistical data, about the various aspects of socio-economic life and problems of the people is most essential for the scientific planning of a development programme.
