Abstract
Construction accounts for a major share of expenditure in any Plan for socio-economic development. Along with the increase in the total outlay in each successive Plan, expenditure on construction has also recorded a steady increase. The rise in the volume, of construction activities has, however, been accompanied by a steady increase in cost of construction. The necessity of achieving economy in construction costs and the effect of savings so accrued in relieving the strain on the nation’s resources are thus obvious.
