Report of the Working Group of the Planning Commission on Modernization of Library Services and Informatics for the Seventh Five Year Plan

Abstract

The Planning Commission consulted this Working Group especially to see that Library and Information Services as well as new Information technology are well represented In 7th Plan. During the previous plan periods Libraries and Information services were In general considered as auxiliaries of the parent Institutions or organisations such as various Ministries/ Departments, Universities, research Institutions etc. with the result the funds for them were coming from the parent body's budget heads. A public library In addition Is on essential element of the community which needs to be supported by the community as a whole.
