Abstract

The state production of jute during 1991-92 is 8.67 lakh bales against an area of 1.01 lakh hectare. In view of the productivity of this crop, the Government of India has sponsored Special Jute Development Programme with 100% assistance in 9 districts covering 31 nos. blocks. Since the inception of this scheme, the productivity per hec. in the identified blocks has raised to 2815 kg/ha against the state average of 1537 kg/ha during 1919-92 with total production of 8.67 lakh bales under this scheme in the reference year.
