Abstract
The cycle of good harvests which had reached the peak in 1960-61, touched the lowest point in the trough in 1963-64. The declining trend in agricultural production was also reflected in the production of all the cash crops excepting sugarcane which recovered from the level reached in the previous year. On the other hand, a distinct increase in industrial production as compared to the previous year was visible. During the year 1963, value of production in registered factories rose to Rs. 345 crores as against Rs.302 crores in 1962, and Rs.284 crores in 1961. In the small scale sector the value of production increased from Rs.39 crores in I960 to Rs.96 crores in 1963. However, the decline in agricultural production and consequent scarcity of supplies of consumables continued to exert a pressure on prices.
