Abstract

Coconut cultivation is the mainstay of the people. The area under coconut is 278Uha. Palm population is about 6 lakhs of which 80% are bearing trees, 14% young palms and the rest newly planted seedlings. The various groups are mainly Laccadive ordinary, Laccadive small and Laccadive micro of which Laccadive ordinary constitute of the population. The Laccadive ordinary is a prolific bearer whereas the Laccadive small and Laccadive micro are intermittent bears.
