Report of the Working Group on Inland Water Transport for Ninth Five Year Plan (1997-2002)

Abstract

Working Group on Inland Water Transport for formulation of 9th Five year plan (1997-2002) was set up by the Planning Commission during November 1995. The Group consisted of 25 members with Secretary, Ministry of Surface Transport as Chairman. Four separate Sub Groups were set up for an in-depth study of the IWT related issues and to make specific recommendations for strategy to be adopted during the 9th Five Year Plan. The Sub Groups have gone into the various aspects of IWT, its problems, issues and prospects. The recommendations of the Sub Groups have formed valuable inputs based on which the Working Group has made its recommendations.
