Abstract
The Annual Plan 1995-96 for Andhra Pradesh focuses on a comprehensive strategy to strengthen the state’s transport sector, encompassing ports, roads, bridges, public transport, and traffic management. Key initiatives target the development and modernization of minor ports, including Kakinada, Machilipatnam, and Krishnapatnam, with dedicated budgets for slipways, jetties, and navigational improvements, while the Deep Water Port at Kakinada is under major development with ADB support. Road infrastructure receives substantial allocations, emphasizing new road formation, metaling, and strengthening of existing highways, complemented by externally aided projects on major routes like Hyderabad-Karimnagar-Ramagundam and Kakinada-Rajanagaram. Public transport enhancements include the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation’s (APSRTC) fleet augmentation and replacement, with 2,118 vehicles planned, alongside the approval of a Light Rail Transit System in Hyderabad with a projected cost of Rs. 707 crores. Inland water transport projects, including wharf construction and waterway maintenance, are supported through dedicated funding. Traffic management improvements, including driving schools and upgraded signaling, aim to optimize state revenue and road safety. Collectively, these initiatives reflect a coordinated approach to build a robust, efficient, and sustainable transport network in Andhra Pradesh, facilitating economic growth, trade logistics, and improved mobility for residents.
