dc.description.abstractUttar Pradesh, with 88.3 million population according to 1971 census, is the most populous State accounting for 16.1 per cent of the total population in the country. It has 56 districts spread over eleven administrative divisions and covers an area of 294, 413 square kilometres which is 9 per cent of total area of the country. The State stands fourth in respect of area, the States having an area larger than U. P. being Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. There are only six countries in the world which have population greater than this State.
