Abstract

Seafaring is a natural adjunct of maritime countries; and India, with 3000 miles of coast, is and has always been, a maritime country. In centuries past, it carried on an immense trade with the Roman Empire, which continued till, the fall of Byzantium. Additionally, its ships were in the China and East Indies trade, and the parts of India were entreports and trading centers to supply the goods of the East to the West.
