Abstract

Tripura is located in the south-west extreme comer of the north-eastern region. With an area of 10,492 Sq Km, it is one of the smallest states of the country. Nearly 2/3rd of the area is hilly, leaving very little cultivable land. About 59% of the total area is classified as forest and under the ambit of the Forest Conservation Act. About 90% of the total forest area (53% of the total area) has actual forest cover.
