| dc.description.abstract | The memorandum, based on socio-economic surveys conducted in nine Indian cities, highlights critical challenges in urban development, including rapid population growth, high rural-to-urban migration, and socio-economic disparities. Key findings reveal widespread low-income households, underemployment, inadequate housing, limited municipal services, and poor access to education and health facilities. Fertility and reproductive health surveys indicate high birth rates, early marriages, and insufficient family planning awareness, particularly among lower-income groups. The report underscores the urgent need for integrated urban planning, improved educational and health infrastructure, and targeted interventions to alleviate poverty, enhance living conditions, and promote sustainable urban development in India. | |
