Abstract

Due to sustained plan effort and carefully chosen priorities, the State of Tamil Nadu has been evincing a transformation from agriculturally based economy to a more diversified economy. Between 1960-61 and 1967-68 the proportion of Agriculture and Allied activities in the State income fell from 49.1 per cent to 45.4 per cent, while for the country as a whole, this percentage showed an increase from 51 per cent to 53 per cent. During the same period the proportion of the secondary sectors (Mining and Manufacturing) showed an increase from 16 per cent to 21.2 per cent, while for the country as a who this percentage showed a fall from 20.1 per cent to 18.2 per cent.
