The Planning Commission Government of India
These problems are not all new and not unique to the newly industrializing societies. But the context in which these problems have to be faced by the newly independent and industrialized societies is very different from the context in which they were faced by the older industrialized countries. Today as a result of the faster means of communication and the spread of mass media there is a much greater international awareness, both on the part of the deprived as well as the privileged, of the deprivations from which people suffer. on the one hand this awareness has given rise to programmes of international assistance on an unprecedented scale
