New Five Year Plan (1978-83) Sector Draft Annual Plan 1978-79 Andaman and Nicobar Administration

Abstract

There are 38 Gram Panchayats functioning in the Andaman Group of Islands and some more Panchayats are likely to be formed in the Rehabilitation area of Little Andaman and Great Nicobar in 1978-79. These Panchayats continue to be at infant stage and income of the Panchayats is negligible. Efforts are being made to augment the resources of income to the Panchayats. In order to maintain the capital investments in the shape of Panchayat ghar, Panchayat Markets, Club buildings etc., the grant-in-aid is to be provided to each Panchayats. It is essential for smooth functioning of the Panchayats and to strengthen the activities of the Panchayats in the rural areas in view of the decentralisation measures adopted by the Government.
