Draft Eighth Five Year Plan, 1990-95 and Annual Plan, 1991-92 Part-I Maharashtra State

Abstract

The Planning Commission had requested the State Government to formulate its draft proposals for the Eighth Five Year Plan (1990-95) and Annual Plan (1991-92) dovetailing the Annual Plan 1990-91 into the Eighth Plan proposals. Accordingly the draft proposals for the Government of Maharashtra have been prepared, a summary of which is given in this chapter. The National Development Council in its meeting held on 18th-19th June 1990 at New Delhi approved the Approach to the Eighth Five Year Plan prepared by the Planning Commission. The thrust of the Eighth Plan approach is on employment generation and greater decentralisation of the planning Process along with a commitment to transfer a minimum of 50 per cent of all plan outlays for rural development.
