dc.description.abstractChandigarh is a small Union Territory spread over an area of 114 sq. kms. comprising of the city of Chandigarh and only 13 villages. As per population Data 2011 Census (Provisional), the population of this Union Territory is approximately 10,54,686 out of which the rural population is 29,004 only. the Union Territory witnessed decennial population growth (2010-2011) of 17.10%. Chandigarh is unique, because it is a capital of two state Governments, Punjab & Haryana. Chandigarh is a planned city, with a high standard of civic amenities. Chandigarh's infrastructure was originally planned for a population of five lacs, but the city has expanded rapidly over the last three decades and faces problems common to other growing cities in India.
