Abstract

During Kharif 1979-80 unprecedented drought prevailed in the State. Firstly monsoon rains were not only late but scanty too. This resulted in late transplantation of paddy and late sowing of other crops. Then there were no rains from 1st week of August onwards resulting in withering of crops and even ploughing up of late sown fields of paddy and Bajra. This reduced the acre-age under these crops. Later on strong winds coupled with rain in September caused bronzing and sterility of paddy ears.
