Abstract
Family Planning activities had comparatively an early beginning in Maharashtra (erstwhile Bombay State) largely due to voluntary effort. A birth control clinic was opened in Bombay as far back as in 1926 and about a decade later in 1936 a family planning training course was also organised, both on account of the efforts of enlightened individuals. In the year 1949, the Family Planning Association was founded in Bombay, thereby creating an organised forum for giving a lead to family planning activities.
