Abstract
The Residential Buildings Committee Report presents an integrated framework for improving the planning, design, and execution of government residential housing in India with a strong emphasis on cost efficiency, safety, and livability. Through systematic evaluation of residential projects across major cities, the report recommends standardized norms for space utilization, construction specifications, and material use, leading to substantial reductions in capital costs and government subsidies. It also addresses critical technical advancements, including the adoption of one-pipe plumbing systems, modular coordination for labor savings, and updated electrical installation practices tailored to climatic conditions. Special attention is given to earthquake-resistant design, advocating improved seismic research, foundation selection, and structural symmetry. Collectively, the recommendations aim to promote durable, energy-efficient, and socially balanced residential environments while strengthening administrative efficiency and modern construction practices.
