Abstract
Lying between Latitudes 17° 48' N to 26° 52' N and between the Longitudes 74° 2' E to 84° 24' E, Madhya Pradesh is situated in the very heart of India and is surrounded by seven States, viz., Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. It has an area of 443 thousand sq. kms. Its population according to 1991 Census is 661.8 lakhs.
