The acquisition of land would help the Administration in preventing unauthorised growth around the villages of the Union Territory. This would make it possible to retain the present character of Chandigarh the priority of acquisition of land for the development of new sectors is important not only for the development of the City but also for the betterment of economic environment. for this purpose, the Administration needs additional allocation of funds during 10th plan period. The rapid rise in the number of motor vehicles, increase in power consumption, increase in industrial and commercial activities and the growing shortage of housing also are indicators that point to the need to strengthen the city’s infrastructural base.
