Abstract

After his visit to Lakshadweep Islands in November, 1985 Prime Minister desired that the Planning Commission should take special interest in devising a strategy for an integrated development of Lakshadweep, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This strategy should aim not only at accelerating the development of these Islands, keeping in view local resources, needs and priorities, but also ensure preservation of the natural beauty as well as the ecology of the Islands. He directed that all development programmes should be reviewed, within the framework of the already approved Seventh Plan outlay, to achieve the above objectives
