Abstract
The failure of monsoon and drought conditions in a major part of the Slate were responsible for serious set-back in the stepping up of agriculture production during the third plan period. Huge drain of resources or providing relief works for the people in drought stricken areas upset the financial balance of economy resulting in slow tempo of progress all round The rate of growth of industrial production also slowed down, partly due to a fall in demand for cotton textiles and partly due to shortages of electrical power and of imported raw materials and components. Inspite of these handicaps the process of economic development has already resulted in a wide net-work of infrastructure facilities and a rapidly growing industrial base for the economy.
